Devossion by Live Aqua is one of the newest all-inclusive resorts in Playa del Carmen, and it’s adults-only, which already makes it stand out. There really aren’t many true adults-only all-inclusive resorts this close to Fifth Avenue, so the location is a huge part of what makes this place different.
You can be relaxing by the pool one minute and walking into town the next. If you like being able to leave the resort and explore, this is one of the easiest places to do that while still having the all-inclusive experience.
The property actually used to be a Hyatt hotel, and the transition to Devossion by Live Aqua happened incredibly fast. July 31 was the last day as Hyatt, and August 1 it reopened as an adults-only all-inclusive resort. They didn’t even close during the switch, which is honestly kind of wild considering how big of a change that is.
This resort felt like a good mix of couples and groups, with a social but still relaxed atmosphere.

First Impressions, Arrival & Location
The resort is about 45–50 minutes from Cancún International Airport, depending on traffic, which is typical for Playa del Carmen.
When you arrive, the first thing you notice is how open everything feels.
The main check-in area sits right in the middle of the resort under a huge roof with no walls, and you can feel the ocean breeze right away. You can see straight out to the Caribbean, which makes a really nice first impression.
The lobby bar area is one of the prettiest spots on the property. It’s open from 10am to 11pm and has a really nice view of the ocean. It’s the kind of place where you actually want to sit and hang out for a while.
One thing I noticed right away is that the alcohol brands included are better than what you usually see at a lot of all-inclusive resorts.
One of the biggest advantages of this resort is how easy the location is.
Being right near Fifth Avenue means you can walk to shops, restaurants, and nightlife without needing taxis. It’s one of the easiest resorts in Playa del Carmen if you like being able to leave the property and explore a little.
The area around the resort feels very walkable and straightforward, especially during the day and evening when Fifth Avenue is busy.
The resort itself is fairly compact, which makes it easy to get around. Nothing feels far away, and you’re never walking long distances between your room, the pools, and restaurants.
This is the kind of resort I’d recommend to someone who wants to actually experience Playa del Carmen instead of staying inside a resort the whole time. It feels like a good mix of resort vacation and real Playa.

Rooms & Accommodations
All the suites here are set up pretty similarly, so the biggest difference really comes down to the view and the extras that come with the room category. Some are more basic with partial ocean views, while others — like the Horizon Suites — come with private plunge pools.
One thing I liked is that every suite category includes access to the VIP Club on the fifth floor. It’s not huge, but it’s a really nice space with an outdoor terrace overlooking the Caribbean. It’s an easy place to grab something small without having to go down to the restaurants.
In the mornings they put out pastries and light breakfast options until around 11am. After that it turns into more of a lounge with snacks and premium drinks, and in the early evening they bring out small bites. Suite guests will also have access to the beach club once it opens, which should be a really nice added perk.
Inside the rooms you get all the basics you’d expect from a newer adults-only resort — 24-hour room service, a minibar that’s refilled daily, and wristbands that double as your room key so you don’t have to carry cards around.
I toured a partial ocean view room, and you do see the ocean, but it’s definitely partial. You’re mostly looking out over the pedestrian bridge in front of the resort with the water in the background. Still pretty, just something to be aware of when choosing a category.
The patios are nice for sitting outside, but they aren’t totally private since you can see nearby balconies and some of the lower levels of the resort.
Swim-up rooms are available too, although the swim-up sections themselves aren’t very large. They’re nice if you like easy pool access, but they’re not the huge lagoon-style swim-ups some resorts have.
Connecting rooms are also available, which is helpful for groups traveling together.
One small detail I thought was really cute is that the penguin is the symbol of the resort. It represents loyalty because penguins stay with the same partner for life — a nice touch for an adults-only property. It reminded me a little of how Live Aqua Cancun Resort uses ducks as their mascot — just one of those small details that gives the resort personality.

Pools & Beach
This is probably my favorite part of the resort.
All of the pools face the ocean, so almost everywhere you sit you have a view of the Caribbean. The water here is that bright blue color people picture when they think of Mexico, and it was really clear when I visited.
There wasn’t much seaweed and they clean the beach daily.
The pool area definitely has energy. The music during the day was really fun — one of those places where you catch yourself dancing a little without even thinking about it. It felt social and upbeat but not like a crazy party resort.
There are plenty of loungers and cabanas, plus pool concierge and beach drink service.
Right near the pools they have a cooking station during the day where they make things like tacos and burgers, which is nice when you don’t want to fully leave the pool area.
The beach here feels very Playa del Carmen. Since it’s near the ferry pier, you’ll see local vendors walking by selling mango, churros, drinks, and souvenirs. It feels very authentic — just bring pesos if you want to buy anything.
There will also be locals down on the beach with their chairs and umbrellas so its always lots of fun and energetic!
They use barriers & netting to help keep the beaches clear since this area does get sargassum, but during my visit the beach looked pretty good.
They’re also building a beach club that will be available for guests.

Restaurants & Dining Experiences
Dining here is really straightforward, which I appreciated. Everything is first come, first served, so there’s no worrying about making reservations or planning your nights around restaurant times. You can pretty much just decide where you want to eat and go.
There’s a good mix of options, and it feels easy to rotate between them during your stay. The buffet is open for breakfast and lunch, and then at night that same space turns into a Mexican restaurant, so it feels a little different in the evenings. There’s also an Italian restaurant that serves different menus depending on whether you go for lunch or dinner, plus a sushi spot that’s nice when you want something lighter.
The steakhouse, Carnivore, is one of the prettiest restaurants on the property. It’s set close to the water with really nice views, and it feels a little more special for dinner. Right now it’s included, although that could change later. In the mornings, that same space becomes Azul, which is an à la carte breakfast restaurant.
There’s also a café called Paseo Azul, and honestly the coffee was better than I expected for an all-inclusive. It’s a good stop in the morning or whenever you want something quick.
Overall the food leaned pretty heavily toward Mexican flavors, which made sense for the location, and everything I tried tasted fresh.
One of my favorite little spots was the bar near the Italian restaurant — it has one of the best views of the Caribbean and is a really nice place to sit for a drink before dinner or in the evening.

Activities & Entertainment
There’s a good mix of things to do without needing to leave the resort.
The sports bar is open from 5pm to 11pm and has drinks and snacks. There are pool tables, air hockey, and a separate TV room with couches that would be great for watching a game.
They usually have live music a few nights a week around 7–9pm.
There’s also a speakeasy-style nightclub that stays open until about 1am.
It used to be the kids club before the resort became adults-only, and now it’s a late-night bar with a DJ. It’s a good option if you want nightlife without going out into town.
There’s also a quieter outdoor area right outside if you want to step away from the music.
The resort also has an in-house excursion team, which makes it really easy to plan activities directly from the property.
You can book things like cenotes, ruins, and tours without having to figure out transportation yourself, which makes everything feel simple — especially if it’s your first time visiting the area.

Spa & Wellness
The spa here is honestly really beautiful and feels like a place you’d actually want to spend time, not just run in and out for a treatment. The design uses a lot of wood and greenery, so it feels calm and natural the second you walk in. When you arrive they give you a chlorophyll shot, which is a small detail but kind of fun and different.
If you book a treatment, you can stay and use the spa facilities for the rest of the day, which makes it feel more worth it. There’s also a lap pool, so it’s easy to spend a few hours just relaxing. If you don’t want a full treatment, you can still access the hydrotherapy area for about $36 for two hours, which is actually a really good deal compared to most resorts.
One of the nicest parts of the spa is how the treatment rooms are set up around a cenote-style indoor space with a small pool in the middle. After your treatment you can relax there together, which makes the experience feel more private and unhurried.
The treatment rooms themselves are really well done, with private showers and full bathrooms, and everything feels clean and high-end without being over the top.
The locker areas are separate for men and women and include hot and cold plunge pools along with steam rooms, so there’s plenty to use even before or after your treatment.
The gym is also surprisingly nice. It has a full range of machines and enough open space for things like yoga or Pilates, so it works whether you just want a quick workout or something more structured.

Worth It? Final Thoughts
Devossion by Live Aqua feels different from a lot of resorts in Playa del Carmen.
The adults-only all-inclusive concept this close to Fifth Avenue is a big advantage, especially if you want the option to explore.
Between the ocean views, fun pool atmosphere, good food options, and really nice spa, it feels like a solid choice for couples and groups.
It’s especially good for people who like Playa del Carmen and want to actually experience it instead of being stuck at a resort far away from everything.
