RIU Ventura Cancun: My Experience at This Brand-New All-Inclusive in the Hotel Zone

Walking into RIU Ventura Cancun for the first time, the ocean views immediately stand out. The resort is shaped like an L, which means you’re surrounded by the Caribbean from so many different angles, and it creates this really nice open, breezy feel throughout the property. Everything felt fresh, modern, and well laid out, with a design that felt lively but not overwhelming. From the start, it felt like a resort that knew exactly what it was trying to be — fun, social, and easy to enjoy.

RIU Ventura is a brand-new all-inclusive resort located right in the Cancun Hotel Zone, and it absolutely feels new. The spaces are clean, bright, and thoughtfully designed, and nothing felt worn or dated. One thing I appreciated right away was how effortless everything felt. From check-in to getting around the resort, nothing felt confusing or stressful, which instantly made the experience more enjoyable.

Rooms & Accommodations

All rooms at RIU Ventura come with a stocked minibar that includes beer, sodas, and water, along with liquor dispensers in the room. It’s one of those classic RIU features that definitely adds to the fun, especially for adult travelers. Ice machines are located in the hallway, and everything is refilled as often as you want. If you’re traveling with kids, you can also request to have the liquor dispensers removed, which is good to know.

The swim-out oceanfront rooms on the first floor were easily one of my favorite categories. Being able to step right from your room into the pool while still having ocean views is such a vibe, especially for couples. These rooms are limited to two adults max, which helps keep that area feeling calm and more adult-focused.

I also saw a Friends & Family Ocean View room — room 0607 — which had two king beds and views of both the ocean and the lagoon. Even though it’s on the side of the building, the views were still beautiful, and it felt like a really great option for groups traveling together. RIU Ventura also offers family room categories that can sleep up to six people, including options with a king bed, a queen bed, and a pull-out couch, as well as layouts with two separate bedrooms.

There are two buildings total on the property — one with six floors and one with eleven — and even the more basic interior rooms felt like a solid value because the pools, beach, and common areas are such a highlight.

Pools, Beach & Overall Resort Feel

This is where RIU Ventura really shines. The resort has a great mix of energy depending on where you want to spend your time, and it never felt overly crowded while I was there.

The adults-only swim-up bar was easily one of my favorite areas. The vibe there was so good — lively, social, and completely kid-free, with full Caribbean views the entire time. It felt like the kind of place people would naturally gravitate toward during the day and end up staying longer than planned.

There’s also a larger activity pool near RIUland where you’ll find things like volleyball and daytime games, which gives families and groups a fun place to hang out without taking over the quieter pool areas. Pools close at 7 PM, but if you’re staying in a swim-out room, those pools are open 24/7, which is a huge perk and something not a lot of resorts offer.

The rooftop pool on level six was another standout. It’s open to everyone and has an infinity-style design with glass panels added for safety, so you still get those incredible Caribbean views. Right now it’s a bar-only space, but food is expected to be added in the coming months. Even without food, it felt like a great spot to relax during the day.

The beach was beautiful — soft white sand and that unreal teal-blue water Cancun is known for. There’s beach concierge service for drinks, which makes it easy to stay put and relax. It’s worth noting that this area often has red or yellow flags, so you do need to be cautious in the water. When I visited, the waves were calm, and the area slightly to the left was where I felt most comfortable swimming.

Restaurants & Dining Experience

Dining at RIU Ventura honestly exceeded my expectations. RIU isn’t always known for standout food, but this resort felt like a big step up.

The buffet is open from 7 AM to 10 PM and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The setup was impressive, with multiple food stations including a chicken carving station, fresh taco station, salad bars, and dessert displays. Everything looked fresh and well presented, and there’s even a dedicated gluten-free section. If you have allergies, it’s important to let the resort know ahead of time, again at check-in, and always remind your waiter so it’s attached to your room profile.

The restaurants are lined up together, which makes the evenings feel really easy. You don’t need reservations for most places — you simply arrive, get seated, or receive a buzzer if there’s a wait. When it buzzes, you head back and enjoy dinner. Dinner service runs from 6:00 to 9:30 PM, and one thing I loved is that most restaurants offer both indoor and outdoor seating, which isn’t common for RIU properties.

Agave, the Mexican restaurant, was designed to feel like an old Mexican home, with intentionally worn, rustic décor. You start with salads and appetizers from a buffet, then order your main dish off the menu, which made the experience feel more elevated without being stuffy.

The Italian restaurant is open for dinner and serves great pasta and ravioli, while the steakhouse felt surprisingly elegant, with both indoor and outdoor seating. The steakhouse is free for all guests and is the only restaurant that takes reservations, which can be made up to three days in advance through the RIU app.

Kaori, the Japanese restaurant, had a unique layout with larger shared tables in the center, which makes it a great option for families or groups of five or more. It can come with a slightly longer wait, but it felt worth it for the experience.

There’s also a 24/7 sports bar that really stood out to me. Drinks are available all night, and the food menu is open until 11 PM with actual options like burgers and fries — which is not typical for RIU. After that, they still offer midnight snacks, which I loved.

During the day, Pepe’s Food Bar and the mezcal spot near the pool were fun, casual places to grab food and drinks without leaving the pool area.

Activities, Entertainment & Extras

RIU Ventura is the only property in the Riviera Maya with a pickleball court, which is such a fun and unique feature. Reservations are required, so it’s something you’ll want to plan ahead for.

The theater is large and has its own bar, making it a great space for nightly shows and parties. Guests also have access to RIU Party events at RIU Caribe, which is adults-only. Transportation runs every 20 minutes, and you can stay as long or as little as you want.

For nightlife, RIU Cancun’s disco is open until 2 AM and is free to enter — you just need transportation, which is easy using Uber, InDrive, or the R1 bus that runs 24/7 through the hotel zone.

Families will love RIUland, which is available for kids ages 4–12 and runs from 10 AM to 8 PM. Kids can stay there all day while parents remain on the resort property, and nanny services are available for an extra fee if parents want to leave.

Adults-Only Spaces & 18+ Areas

Even though RIU Ventura is a family-friendly resort, there are very clear adults-only areas that make it easy to enjoy a more grown-up vibe if that’s what you’re looking for.

The adults-only swim-up bar area quickly became one of my favorite spots on the property. It feels social, relaxed, and fun without ever being chaotic, and it’s a great place to spend the afternoon if you want music, cocktails, and space that’s strictly 18+.

There are also adults-only swim-up rooms, some with a direct view of the Caribbean & these rooms are limited to two adults per room! These rooms offer direct pool access and give couples a more private, quieter experience while still being close to everything. If you want that easy “step out of your room and into the pool” feeling without kids around, this is definitely the category to book.

The rooftop area also leans adults-only and feels much more elevated and relaxed. Between the views, the bar, and the overall atmosphere, it’s another great option if you’re looking for a more mature space to hang out during the day or early evening.

Overall, RIU Ventura does a really good job balancing family-friendly energy with adults-only spaces. You never feel stuck in one environment, and it’s easy to move between lively, social areas and quieter, more relaxed spots depending on the mood you’re in.

Spa, Wellness & Accessibility

The spa area was really well done, with steam rooms, showers, lockers, and two hydrotherapy pools — one hot and one cool. Guests get 30 minutes per day included, which is such a nice perk that isn’t usually included at all inclusive resorts. There are larger couples massage rooms with private showers and lounging areas, as well as individual treatment rooms for solo services. Hair, nail, and full spa services are also available.

The gym was new, spacious, and well equipped, and the entire resort is fully accessible for guests using wheelchairs, which is always important to note.

Final Thoughts

RIU Ventura Cancun honestly exceeded my expectations. The resort feels modern, open, and really easy to enjoy, and even though it’s a larger property, it never felt overwhelming or chaotic while I was there. Everything flows well, there’s plenty of space to spread out, and it’s the kind of place where you can be as active or as relaxed as you want.

The vibe is fun and social without being a full-on party resort. There’s always something going on, but it never felt loud or out of control. I also loved that even though this is a family-friendly resort, there are still multiple adults-only areas — like the adults-only swim-up bar, the adults-only swim-out rooms (which are limited to two adults), and the rooftop area — so it still works really well for couples and adults traveling without kids.

RIU Ventura is a great fit for couples, families, and friend groups who want great food, beautiful ocean views, lots of pool options, and an all-inclusive that feels lively but not exhausting. It’s especially good if you like having options — whether that’s relaxing by the pool, joining activities, or heading out to explore the Hotel Zone.

Out of all the RIU resorts I’ve visited, this one is hands down my favorite. Everything just felt more elevated, better designed, and more intentional than what I’ve experienced at other RIUs. I would absolutely go back, and it’s an easy one for me to recommend.
